Cathy Timberlake est une jeune employée de bureau, à la recherche d'un emploi. Alors qu'elle se rend à un entretien, elle est éclaboussée par le passage d'une voiture, plus exactement la limousine du milliardaire Philip Shayne. Si ces deux-êtres n'ont rien en commun, ils vont pourtant rapidement faire connaissance... Philip propose à la jeune femme un voyage aux Bermudes, mais celle-ci se persuade rapidement qu'il lui propose également le mariage. Ce qui est loin d'être l'intention du milliardaire !
