À Kaboul, sous la neige, Mustafa flirte avec Wajma, qu'il connaît par un cousin. Timide et réservée, elle suit des cours à la faculté de droit ; lui, charmant avec son look d'éternel étudiant, est serveur dans un restaurant. Ils se fréquentent en cachette. Mustafa lui susurre qu'il l'aime à l'oreille, mais bientôt, la sentence tombe, mettant fin à leurs escapades secrètes. Elle est enceinte.
