Le physicien Jan a travaillé comme météorologue. Il vit dans un petit village avec sa femme, une enseignante. Pendant ce temps, son ami d’université, Marek, mène une carrière de chercheur. Ce dernier essaie de convaincre Jan de revenir travailler à l'Académie dans la capitale. Marek n'est pas convaincu par les arguments de Jan. Choc de deux attitudes et des idées sur le sens de la vie.
