Joshua (Cuba Gooding Jr.) est un homme de main intraitable travaillant pour Vincent (Miguel Ferrer), un caïd de la pègre. Il vit dans un monde où se côtoient brutalité et jolies femmes. Mais voilà qu'il se retrouve au cœur d'une lutte de pouvoir l'opposant à Nino (Harvey Keitel), le plus grand trafiquant de drogue sévissant dans le secteur. Joshua sait désormais que le moindre faux pas signera son arrêt de mort.
