Olaf Gunnunderson est un étudiant gay et assumé. Avant de rejoindre sa famille pour les vacances de Noël, il dit au revoir à son petit ami Nathan. Ce que Nathan ignore, c'est qu'Olaf n'à jamais fait son coming-out et que ses parents, lassés de le voir seul, ont invité Abby, son ancienne petite amie du lycée, pour les fêtes. Olaf parvient à gérer tant bien que mal la situation, jusqu'à l'arrivée impromptue de Nathan chez ses parents...
