Au cours du documentaire, nous découvrons la puissance du lobbying de l’industrie du sucre pour dissimuler ses effets néfastes sur la santé aux yeux du grand public pendant tant d’années. Voilà qu’aujourd’hui, la surconsommation de sucre est incontestablement un problème de santé publique en Amérique du Nord, mais aussi dans plusieurs autres pays dans le monde. En 2003, l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) recommandait déjà de limiter notre consommation de sucres ajoutés à 10 % de notre apport en énergie totale, soit l’équivalent de 50 g ou 12,5 c. à thé. L’année dernière, elle resserrait la vis en précisant que l’idéal serait de viser un apport maximal de 5%.
