Mariée à un homme violent, Hélène perd tout espoir lorsqu'elle se sent également abandonnée par Dieu. Lorsqu'elle rencontre le célèbre psychologue Eduard E.Gluck, elle voit en lui la possibilité d’une libération. Une irrésistible attirance naît entre ces deux êtres en apparence opposés.
