Au pôle Sud, le premier Docteur se retrouve avec sa douzième incarnation et un capitaine de l'armée britannique, extrait des tranchées de la Première Guerre mondiale juste avant sa mort. Survient alors un vaisseau spatial qui les embarque tous les trois. À bord, ils rencontrent Bill Potts qui leur présente le pilote du vaisseau, une projection holographique. Celui-ci veut ramener le capitaine au moment de son décès...
