Les soeurs Tate sont orphelines et vivent ensemble dans l'Oregon. L'aînée, Amelia, avait des rêves de comédienne, mais elle a dû s'occuper de sa petite soeur, Kathryn, lorsque leur mère tombe malade, après la mort de leur père. Leur vie change le jour où Kathryn propose à Amelia de concourir pour le remake de Vacances romaines du réalisateur italien, Dominic D'Andrea. En effet, la production du film, Pinnacolo Productions, recherche dans le monde entier une actrice inconnue. Amelia est sélectionnée pour jouer aux côtés du célèbre acteur, Jonathan Lyman. Elle doit s'envoler pour Rome où se déroule le tournage.
