Le Marshall Luke Welsh abat Maynor le hors-la-loi qu’il traquait. Pour toucher sa récompense, il doit obtenir une déclaration certifiant l’identité du défunt. Mais l’homme était apprécié et personne en ville n’ose identifier le corps et lui verser la prime. Bien au contraire, lorsque Welsh abat un autre homme, les habitants lève une milice pour se débarrasser de lui.
