Divorcé depuis deux ans, Patrick Godfrey vient s'installer chez sa mère à Boise, accompagné de ses deux fils. Il a vécu dix-sept ans à Hawaii, où il dirigeait une société qui organisait des excursions en pleine nature. A peine arrivé, il rencontre Margie, son ancienne petite amie qu'il a quitté pour s'installer à Hawaii. Celle-ci est désormais vice-présidente d'une société qui gère la banque alimentaire de Boise. Patrick cherche un emploi, si possible en relation avec la nature. Dès lors, ils ne cessent de se rencontrer, jour après jour et en toute occasion. S'agit-il d'un signe du destin ?
