Deux ans se sont écoulés depuis que la créature Nestene a disparu de l'entrepôt top secret d'UNIT… Soudainement et sans avertissement, le Nestene frappe, utilisant une fois de plus les Autons comme ses soldats mortels. Alors que Lockwood, un mystérieux agent d'UNIT, s'efforce de découvrir le plan Nestene, il est attiré par l'île isolée de Sentinel. Là, la population a été prise d'une étrange frénésie religieuse. Lockwood est rejoint par Natasha Alexander, un nouveau conseiller scientifique avec son propre programme sinistre. Pour vaincre la menace Nestene, ils doivent tous deux faire face au pouvoir terrifiant d'une créature datant d'avant l'aube de l'humanité…
