La ligne à grande vitesse Paris-Bordeaux, inaugurée le 2 juillet 2017, représente un aboutissement pour cette liaison ferroviaire qui constitue, depuis toujours, un véritable emblème de la modernité. En témoignent les matériels et les technologies proposés pour relier ces deux villes majeures de la carte de France : 340 kilomètres de rails TGV dernière génération ; près de 500 ouvrages d'art dont 24 viaducs, 15 « sauts-de-mouton », 7 tranchées couvertes. Le tout à réaliser en un temps record : 5 années seulement. De quoi faire flamber la facture pour cette ligne pharaonique : 7,8 milliards d'euros au total.
