Billy Brooks ( Billy Bevan ), un avocat, entreprend d'obtenir le divorce d'un client en le plaçant dans une situation compromettante. Mais le stratagème tourne mal lorsque la femme du client obtient un emploi en tant que nouvelle sténographe de Billy et que lui, ne sachant pas qui elle est, la choisit comme correspondante pour encadrer son propre mari.
